American Yellow Pine

Origin: Southeastern regions of the United States. It is a fast-growing tree, but some species (especially Longleaf Pine) are extremely hard and durable.

Characteristics:

  • Color: It contains broad, distinct heartwood and lighter-colored sapwood. The heartwood ranges from amber yellow to dark brown, sometimes even reddish tones.
  • Texture: It is a hard and dense pine, making it more resistant to scratching and corrosion than many softwoods.

Other Names: Southern Yellow Pine (SYP), American Pine, Longleaf Pine, Shortleaf Pine.

Usage Areas: Structural lumber (beams, posts, joists), heavy-duty flooring (factory, warehouse), outdoor decking and decking, stair treads, beams, wood construction, and garden furniture.

Southern Yellow Pine is known as the ‘steel of structural lumber’ due to its high strength and density. These characteristics make it ideal for load-bearing systems and industrial flooring requiring heavy use.
