Origin: Tropical West and Central Africa. Particularly Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, and Nigeria.
Characteristics:
- Color: Ranges from very light yellow to creamy white, even almost whitish in tone. It has a very pale, uniform, and matte appearance.
- Texture: The texture is fine, straight, and extremely uniform. It is a very soft, extremely light, and porous wood. It is very easy to work with, cut, nail, shape on a lathe, and glue. When sanded, it produces a smooth surface. Its natural durability is poor, and it is not suitable for exposure to outdoor conditions.
Other Names: Abachi, Obeche, Wawa, Samba, African Whitewood, Triplochiton scleroxylon (botanical name).
Uses: Model aircraft and model making, toys (puzzles, jigsaw puzzles), frames, sound insulation panels, filler material, projects requiring light weight, background panels, ideal raw material for ThermoWood treatment.
