Limba (Frake)

Origin: Tropical West and Central Africa. Particularly Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Angola.

Characteristics:

Color: Ranges from yellowish brown to light brown tones. May sometimes contain dark brown-black streaks, in which case it is known as “Black-Streaked Limba” and is more valuable.
Texture: Medium-large, straight, and regular grain. Medium hardness and density. Relatively easy to work with, turn, glue, and polish.

Other Names: Frake, Ofram, Afrormosia (Pericopsis elata - should not be confused with True Afrormosia), Akom, Terminalia superba (botanical name).

Uses: Fine woodwork, exterior door and window frames, decorative covering, furniture, cabinets, interior flooring (parquet), musical instruments (piano and organ making), carving, and model making.

Limba is a favorite among woodworkers due to its homogeneous structure and stable character. Limba lumber offers an exotic and elegant appearance, making it a frequent choice for special design projects.
