Movengi

Origin: Tropical West and Central Africa. Particularly Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, and Gabon.

Characteristics:

  • Color: It has a vivid and bright color ranging from yellow to golden yellow. Over time, it may darken slightly, turning into a deeper golden brown tone.
  • Texture: The texture varies from fine to medium, generally straight. It is a hard, heavy, and strong wood. It is relatively easy to work with and produces a smooth surface. It contains natural oils, making it moderately resistant to decay and insects.

Other Names: Ayan, Nigerian Satinwood, Oveneye, Distemonanthus benthamianus (botanical name). Also known as “African Satinwood”.

Uses: Fine woodwork, decorative veneers, luxury furniture production, flooring (parquet), lathe work, carving, musical instruments, and prosthetics.

Movingui, with its bright yellow color and satin-like smooth surface, is known as the “gold of Africa.” Its light-reflecting properties and decorative appearance make it indispensable, especially in modern and luxury interior designs.
