Okume

Origin: Tropical West Africa. Particularly Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and Cameroon.

Characteristics:

  • Color: Varies from light pinkish brown to pale reddish brown. The color is quite uniform.
  • Texture: It has a fine and homogeneous texture. It is a soft, very light, and porous wood. It is very easy to cut, nail, and glue. Its grain is straight and regular. Its natural durability is low.

Other Names: Gabon, Okoumé, Angouma, Aucoumea klaineana (botanical name).

Uses: Plywood production (most common use), interior paneling, model aircraft and boat building, lightweight structural elements.
