Origin: Tropical Africa. It grows mainly in Central and West Africa, particularly in Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Cameroon.
Characteristics:
- Color: It is typically a rich reddish-brown or dark brown with a purple tint. It has a distinct, bright, and irregular wavy grain pattern, which makes it highly valuable for veneer.
- Texture: It has a fine and dense texture. It is a hard and medium-weight wood. Although it is generally easy to work with, it can fuzz when using blunt tools. It has good natural durability.
Other Names: Sapele, Aboudikro, Penkwa, Sapelli-Mahogany, Entandrophragma cylindricum (botanical name). It is often compared to African Mahogany.
Uses: High-quality furniture (tables, sofas, cabinets), decorative veneers and paneling, flooring (parquet), door and window frames, musical instruments (guitars), and turned items.
